With more than 100 yoga videos on the market, you can imagine the diversity among them – everything from nude yoga to postnatal yoga.
Healing Yoga for Common Conditions
This video promises to improve circulation, promote weight loss and manage the symptoms of diabetes and high cholesterol. Without a medical study it’s hard to say if it can really deliver, but the hosts, Lisa and Charles Matkin, come with good credentials.
They have taught therapeutic yoga programs at Beth Israel Hospital in New York and New York Presbyterian Medical Center, working with physicians in using yoga to help people with chronic injuries and illnesses.
The 35-minute video is designed to help you increase your metabolism, according to the Matkins. The couple begin the workout with Lisa demonstrating the moves next to a pool with an ocean in the background while Charles does the voice-over, then they switch, then switch again. Both have soothing voices and good form.
The workout is divided into three sections. The first deals with learning to control your breath. It’s a pretty basic segment, teaching you breathing techniques and stretching out the body.
The second is for strength, and involves poses that are a bit more difficult, such as the warrior and downward-facing dog poses.
In the third section, you work on releasing tension and relaxation.
This is a good video for all fitness levels. The moves are explained well, as are the benefits and purposes of yoga. None of the poses is very difficult, and the instructors give you modifications to make the moves easier.
Power Strength Yoga for Beginners
Though the title says for beginners, don’t believe a word of it. This video takes you through a vigorous set of poses collectively called the Sun Salutation (which you learn in another video, Power Yoga Stamina for Beginners).
Then, with the mountains of Maui as a backdrop, instructor Rodney Yee takes you through a series of very difficult poses including the pendulum, where you balance your entire body off the floor with the strength of your arms, and others that require a good deal of upper-body strength.
The workout takes only 20 minutes, but you work hard in those 20 minutes. It’s the only yoga video of those reviewed here in which your heart rate gets close to an aerobic rate.
Yee has a great, soothing voice and perfect form, but he never really offers an explanation of the poses or an easier way to do them. Nor does he offer any help in how to build up to them. That said, if you have the upper-body strength, this is an amazing – and fast – way to get in a strength workout without having to go to the gym.
Fitness is a lifestyle. Simple as that. Getting fit is a lifestyle choice. It is a commitment to living in such a way that your body will always get the nourishment that means and it will always get the exercise that needs. It is a commitment to having a long and healthy life. Sadly, this is a commitment that many people struggle to make.
So what can you do if you want to live a more fit lifestyle?
The first thing that you should always look at is your diet. This does not just mean the things that you eat, but it is also important to analyze the things that you drink. Many times people will cut out a lot of bad foods, but they will still go get a super sweet latte from their favorite coffee shop or they will continue to drink a can of pop. Two of very large and real extent liquid calories are worse than food calories. The problem is that liquid calories are more readily available to enter into your bloodstream. Once this sugar in fact is swimming throughout your bloodstream it is almost a given that it will deposit itself somewhere on your body as fat.
At least in the case of food it takes a little while for to be digested.
That does not mean that you should go out and just eat whatever you want so long as you drink healthy. You have to get this balance right. From a drink standpoint I would strongly argue that the number one liquid you should be consuming is water. You should be consuming at least 3 to 4 cups of water per day. After water the next beverage that you should consume is tea because there are a number of very good health benefits you get from tea.
After drinking tea comes coffee, yes there are in fact some really good antioxidants in coffee and choosing to drink one or 2 cups a day is not a bad thing so long as you do not develop a caffeine addiction. The final beverage that you should consume as a drink is going to be juice. Juice can be very good for you, but you have to watch your intake cause of the high sugar content that this beverage has. If you are going to drink juice then it should not drink it for me concentrate, and you certainly should not drink anything that is less than 100% juice. The best juice you can possibly drink is fresh squeezed and 100% natural.
Taking care of the liquid part of your diet may not seem like the most sexy thing. The fact it may seem fairly pedestrian to say that you can start to have a major change your body just by getting your drinking habits under control. It may not be the most fun or trendy thing to talk about, but the civil reality is that by taking no other action that increasing your water consumption you will force your body to lose more weight and you’ll make yourself far healthier.
Gone are the days when a woman would feel intimidated standing on the same golf course to receive a golf tip side by side with a man.

Tip: By doing this, you will be better able to find the stance that is best for you. It’s crucial to have a good stance, but what stance works, depends on your overall size, height and gender.

You can burn hundreds of calories an hour while keeping cool doing laps around a crystal clear swimming pool. Try to have someone time you and compete with your last to see if you can just get faster and faster. This will make swimming laps more of a game and will have you not notice the strenuous work out.
Tip: A lot of people regularly visit the gym and lift weights to improve their personal fitness. Realistically, the only exercises you really need to tone your muscles come down to six movements: push-ups, pull-ups, squats, leg raises, bridges and push-ups done in a hand-stand position.
If the water isn’t your thing or you simply don’t know how to swim there is a solution for you. Just do the same thing I told you to do in the pool but on land. Yes! I mean running of course. Get friends together and race your hearts out! See who can cross that finish line first. Just make sure you make it a competition. This will end up encouraging you to push yourself to new fitness goals. I know cardio can be straining that why its important to have cool down laps so we are ready to push our selfs again.
Perhaps you are into something a little more organized. Well there is nothing easier to assemble then a simple game of kick ball. What a great way to get together with family and friends. This way your spending time together while making sure that everyone is staying healthy and active. This will also help you develop strategy and learn teamwork. Which makes it an amazing group activity for the kids.
The only problem with the last activity is that it doesn’t work if you don’t have enough people. This one does however. Have you heard of monkey in the middle perhaps? Well it is an awesome game that I personally used to play when I was a child were someone stood in the middle. Then the other two player stand on the opposing sides of him and through a ball over his head while he try’s to catch it. Usually he misses but when he does catch that pesky ball he gets to trade places with whoever through it. What a fun way to spend an afternoon!

You’d be surprised to find out it is not expensive; and is not necessarily in a gym or health club either.
Yes…there are golf “machines” for stretching and strength building that are well over one thousand dollars, but are definitely not needed.
Tip: A great technique for bettering your swing is to make the most of your entire body weight as a means to gain additional power. Just relying on arm strength, as novices tend to do, will not produce a strong, smooth swing.
When you think of the golf swing, it’s a dynamic movement completed in space with your ‘whole’ body. So any kind of training or golf exercise equipmentshould be able to accommodate this.
Tip: Whenever you are out on the course, make sure you keep your eyes and ears open so that you don’t disrupt the flow. Getting trapped behind a dawdling group can really put a damper on one’s enthusaism.

Tip: A great way to get more exercise out on the course is to forgo the electric cart and instead opt to walk. Walking the course will drastically increase the level of exercise you get, which will turn your game into a really great method for improving your fitness level! Walking will also keep your muscles loose and warmed up, leaving you ready for every shot as you take it.
Why? Because again it’s portable, inexpensive and very versatile. Doing golf exercises on the ball incorporate core stabilization, balance and stability. All important factors in a mechanically sound golf swing.

Tip: For the best results, don’t move your legs too much while swinging your club. You should shift your weight with your legs for a more powerful swing.
Well now they’re back! They are used in every sport-specific strength program in existence. You can do so many sport-like movements with them and they weigh as much as 20 pounds, so you can imagine the benefit from a power standpoint.
