Get Creative And Get Fit

Here are some creative ideas on how you can incorporate fitness activities into your daily life. Don’t let the boredom of traditional exercises be a roadblock to becoming as fit as you possibly can be. Follow these tips to reaching your fitness goals, easily.

Tip: Often, people try to improve their fitness through weight lifting. Truthfully, you only need to do six different exercises to get fit.

Think about your regular daily routine and pick one time, maybe just a 20 minute segment of time, that you are habitually ‘wasting’. Whether it’s time spent mindlessly watching TV, reading spam emails, or spying on your ex’s facebook account, you can use that time instead to get in a worthwhile workout. Consider using that time to crank up the volume on your favorite disco cd and move like John Travolta did. Nobody’s watching, have fun! You can always check your spam email later if you really want to.

Tip: Try treating yourself to a new work out outfit to get your motivation back on track when you are a bit short on reaching your goals. Even one new article of clothing gives you something to fashion for your friends and maybe encourage a new trip to the gym.

I don’t have anything to wear! Alright, so maybe you don’t have expensive workout shoes or name brand sweats. Don’t let that be your excuse for not getting fit. Do it naked, in the privacy of your home. Put a towel on the floor so you’re not rolling around in cat hair, and strike some yoga poses. Don’t know any yoga poses? Make up your own! As long as you can feel your muscles gently stretching and find their happy place, you’re fine. If you like, maybe you can check out some online yoga websites and get some ideas on the traditional poses. (You might find that it’s more fun than cyber-stalking your enemy co-worker.)

Tip: Don’t have much time for workouts? Break up the workout into two separate routines. Do not increase the time you workout, but try to break it into a half.

So, you might have already picked up on this one main pointer: No excuses allowed! Use your creative streak (we all have one) to figure out a Plan B and get moving. You can’t afford a gym membership? No problem. Instead, volunteer to mow your mom’s lawn and pull some weeds around her roses. Maybe she’ll volunteer in return to make you dinner. If she does, put in a request for roast chicken and a green salad, instead of the usual meatloaf and mashed potatoes with gravy.

Tip: Don’t do crunches as your sole abdominal exercise. Through university studies, it has been shown that 250,000 crunches only burns a pound of fat.

Now’s the time to get really creative. Ask yourself what is the one thing, physical activity, that you’ve always wanted to do, but never seriously considered pursuing? Pursue it now. Maybe you’ve secretly wanted to learn how to surf, or kayak, or rock climb. Maybe you like the idea of belly dancing or gardening. Building a miniature train yard? All of these things, if you are passionate about pursuing them, will not only get you physically active, but will also get you mentally involved in a healthy lifestyle.

Each of us is capable of making our lives as physically fit and mentally stimulating as possible, simply by using our creativity to find the best way to bring fitness and liveliness to our world. Be open to ways that you can put your personal stamp on attaining physical and mental fitness. The small steps you take toward that goal can, even without you realizing it, eventually result in a new, healthier, happier life. Enjoy and think creatively!
